Gratteri is one of the places with the fastest rising prices in Sicily. Because of the beautiful surroundings perhaps? Now you have the opportunity to acquire a small house to renovate here.
In old times in Sicily the normal way to distribute a house was to use the down floor for the animals, to use it as a kettle. Next floor was used for sleeping, because here you had some heat from the animals, nice in the winter. At the top floor was the kitchen.
Here we have something as rare as a truly original house. At the bottom, you still find the feed boxes for the animals, and at the top of the house is the old masonry wood-fired oven left. Here has nothing whatsoever been changed since the house was built for maybe 150 years ago.
Each floor is 17 m2, and there are three floors. A good layout can be to relocate the kitchen / living room to the ground floor, bedroom and bathroom on the middle floor and to rebuild the top floor into a terrace.
If interesting, we can present a total renovation plan as a fixed-price commitment. That kind of plan also includes all necessary paperwork (not entirely insignificant), to ensure everything to be implemented legally. Project management will be executed by English-speaking people.
Gratteri has had an enormous boost in recent years. Prices of real estate have grown rapidly and today here live many politicians, artists and famous people.
Gratteri is in the national park Madonie and there are many hiking trails, agriturismon etc. This internationally important nature reserve plays host to a wide variety of indigenous flora and fauna, including some 70 species of brightly coloured butterflies. Extending over some 98,000 acres, the park is densely wooded and provides endless scope for walkers, hikers, cyclists and campers.
Cefalu ‘with its long sandy beach is only 10 km away. Perched between the sea and a steep, craggy limestone promontory, Cefalu started life as a simple fishing village. Thanks to a long sandy beach and a coastline considered to be one of the most beautiful on the island, Cefalu is now a thriving holiday destination. However the town has retained its mediaeval appearance and its glorious Romanesque cathedral still towers over the network of narrow streets, lined with buildings featuring elaborate architectural decoration. The fishermen’s quarter, with its old houses clustered along the seafront, is a reminder of days gone by and is still in operation to this day.
Price: 25.000€.
