Property Description
SUMMARY:
This Baglio is surrounded by 3 hectares of vineyards and dates back to 1871. It’s located near Trapani-Birgi’s Vincenzo Florio airport, in one of Europe’s key viticultural areas, in the heart of the undiscovered western Sicily.
The property spans over 2,300 square meters and has undergone partial structural renovation. Here is a renovation project approved for turning the property into a commercial guest accommodation center. It is, of course, entirely optional whether to renovate according to this project or to create a new project and purpose for this fabulous property.
In any case, let’s go through the current project: According to this, we would here acquire a total of 60+ rooms, including 22 suites, junior suites, and double rooms in the two two-story manor houses. Here is also included a restaurant, a wine bar, a large beauty farm, a conference room, and a large pool in the surrounding park. But again, this property can be used in many ways, including a spacious private home.
So in total, the approved renovation project includes:
- 22 suites, junior suites, and double rooms
- Restaurant, Wine Bar, Conference Hall, Beauty Farm, Reception
- Park with swimming pools
The property has an intriguing watchtower, high and vaulted roofs, old wine and oil warehouses, and stables with wooden ceilings. Strategically situated, the Relais enjoys proximity to Trapani’s major attractions, historical sites, archaeological wonders, and pristine beaches. It’s only a 20-minute drive from the airport of Trapani and an hour from the airport of Palermo.
The building rests on predominantly flat land used for vine cultivation. Fact for the agriculturally interested: We find compact calcarenite banks with a layer of loose, sandy soil with vegetation on top.
Partial restoration began in 2004, focusing on structural consolidation and complete reconstruction of destroyed sections plus the wooden roofs as directed by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage and Civil Engineering.
The already approved project entails the following:
HISTORY:
Relais Bizir has ancient origins. The property, known as Feudo Bizir, reportedly received a donation in 1200 AC from Roger II to the Archbishopric of Mazara del Vallo. Traces of wall structures and ceramics dating between the 6th and 11th centuries have been discovered in the area. The building has undergone partial renovation through conservative restoration techniques, preserving its original volumes, securing the structure, and maintaining its wooden roofs, curbs, and reinforced concrete roofs. Noteworthy features include vaulted ceilings, old wine and oil warehouses, stables with wooden roofs, two wooden oil mills from the 1800s, and an ancient cooperage.
TERRITORY:
Relais Bizir is nestled in picturesque countryside in one of Europe’s most fertile viticultural regions. Positioned on a small hill, it offers a stunning view of the surrounding rural landscape:
- The southwest front overlooks the blue sea with the Egadi Islands on the horizon.
- On clear days, Pantelleria can be seen to the southeast.
- To the north, Monte Erice and Montagna Grande stand out.
Geologically, the area is rich in limestone, clay, and potassium-rich soils, ideal for viticulture. The three hectares of land arm features consist primarily of vineyards, but there are also quite a few olive trees. The vine-growing potential of the soil is evident from the presence of two renowned “Wine Routes”: Marsala Terre d’Occidente Wine Route and Val di Mazara Wine Route. Several wineries, including BAGLIO CARUSO, BAGLIO HOPPS, CANTINA AJELLO, CANTINA SOCIALE COLOMBA BIANCA, CANTINA SOCIALE SAN FRANCESCO, CANTINA SOCIALE UVAM, are located within a few kilometers from the Relais.
LOCATION:
Strada Provinciale 62, 91025 Marsala, Trapani
The area is served by a good road network – state roads 188 and 115 – and motorway – A29. Relais Bizir is only 30 minutes from the airport of Trapani, 16 kilometers from the center of Mazara del Vallo, 19 kilometers from Marsala, about 6 kilometers from the Giardino di Costanza Resort in Mazara del Vallo, a 5-star hotel belonging to the famous international Blu Hotels chain, a few kilometers from the archaeological sites of Mozia, Segesta and Selinunte, a couple of kilometers from the crystal-clear sea.
